Jukebox Friday

Standard

It’s another edition of jukebox Friday!! 🙂 and it’s not just any edition… It’s the apocalypse. So.. I’ve chosen a thematic song ( it’s the Olympics song, but it fit.)

Okay, so today I let you enjoy the marvel of Muse.

I have not always been a huge fan of Muse, but lately I like it more and more. ( it’s quickly becoming my favourite band).
This song sort of reminds me of the sound of Queen, so naturally I am in love with it. Give it a chance and enjoy your evening/ morning/ noon.

Lyrics:
ace, life’s a race
And I am gonna win
Yes, I am gonna win

And I’ll light the fuse
And I’ll never lose
And I choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won’t pull ahead
I’ll keep up the pace
And I’ll reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes I am prepared
To stay alive
I won’t forgive, the vengeance is mine
And I won’t give in
Because I choose to thrive

I’m gonna win

Race, it’s a race
But I’m gonna win
Yes I’m gonna win
And I will light the fuse
I’ll never lose
And I choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won’t ṗull ahead
I’ll keep up the pace
And I’ll reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes I’m gonna win

Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Win! Win! Win! Win!

Yes I’m gonna win

Oh, oh by the way. Since we’re in the music business, I want to recommend you an application ( I think it works both on apple and android ). It’s called 8tracks and it’s brilliant!! Mixes and good stuff. I learn my music from there 🙂 have fun.

Seeking a friend for the end of the world

Standard

I bet that we all had that fluffy friend in our childhood, a bear, a lion, a tiger. The small, quiet friend we used to hold in our arms when we were sad, take to the table, talk to. Reading this may have opened you old memories, happy ones I hope.
Well, now you can adopt a wild animal via WWF. For those of you who don’t know, WWF is a huge organization, all around the world that makes our home planet a little better. WWF works in 100 countries and is supported by 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally. ( more)
What does it mean to ‘adopt’? You buy a new fluffy friend ( for yourself, or a kid ) and help preserving their species. You even receive an adoption card and an info card about the species you adopt!
I think it’s a great gift for all ages 🙂
If you’re interested you can find more about it here.

P.S. : You can even adopt a red panda!!! How cool is that?

Learning time: The Angel’s Game & other Zafon books

Standard

People say that whoever does not like to read has not yet found the right book. I’ve thought a bit on the matter and I think who said that must have been very wise.

I discovered my love for books first by reading Jane Eyre, then by discovering Carlos Ruiz Zafon. And that’s what I’d like to talk about.

Since I first read The Shadow Of The Wind I knew that that type of books I would like to be able to write. My dad and I instantly loved his stories, his grim, stories set in a dark Barcelona, full of mysteries. I mean, even Stephan King could only praise his work.
If you ever have any time, or want to choose a book, pick The Angels Game. This man has this incredible way of writing and you simply can’t stop reading. I carry my book at school, I read on the bus, at home, whenever I have some free time. His thrillers mixed with love and this owe for books and literature turn every story into a marvelous reading. 🙂

Jukebox Friday

Standard

Today I chose a song that is and has been for a long while very dear to me:

Mad World – Gary Jules

This is a song I was listening to non-stop, whenever I came home from school. I love it because, although it is a still song, it’s very deep and whoever listens to it feels it. It’s a true song, that fits societies and people all around. Most of all it is a song about routine and the sickness of it, about every day life, about everyones life. And, of course, it’s a song that defines our very, very mad world.

Lyrics:
All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very, very
Mad world, mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen

Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me, what’s my lesson?
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very, very
Mad world, mad world, enlarging your world
Mad world

Read the lyrics very carefully.

Help: Johnny Depp vs. Brad Pitt ( the ultimate argument)

Standard

I’m having a debate with my mother and I need a little help here. I’m going to tell you how things are.

I am a Johnny Depp fan. I loved that man since I was 9 and he will always be my favourite actor. I consider him to be the most versatile, interesting, gorgeous and talented actor at Hollywood. I am trying to persuade my mother into thinking the same.
Just think about it:
He played so many parts, all so different. He is a genius. I really mean that. Although I may not agree sometimes with his choices in his personal life ( how can anyone stand that Vanessa Paradise ) that does not change how amazingly talented he is.

And I didn’t even mention his unique sense of style.

My mother is a Brad Pitt fan. She is the classic woman. Problem is, she consideres Brad to be more talented. She thinks his movies are more intelligent and he is more good looking.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I like Brad a lot and I admire him a lot. But I love Depp.

Now, here comes your part. Who is your favourite? Please help us solve this incredibly domestic argument.

My relationship with libraries

Standard

Hello, lovelies, how’s your weekend so far? I have just been to the cinema with mom ( we watched Playing for Keeps. Basically it’s worth watching for Gerard Butler. ).

So, anyways, on our way back we stopped to my favourite library. I have a serious relationship with books, okay? I am in love with books and I would love to live in a library. I love watching books, reading books and buying books that I have no time to read because I have other books to read.
As I was searching for Proust and Stendhal I couldn’t help but hear a discussion between two girls next to me.

Now, whenever I am in a library, I am torn between the warm feel I get at seeing so many books, and the stupid people I hear talking. Those conversation are sometime so stupid they make me laugh, although my heart is slowly dying inside.
So here’s what I heard:

Heyy, gurl I keep seeing this novel, this umm.. Madame Bovary thing or something?

Oh, yeah. Heard it’s famous, I don’t know. Never read it.

Yeah, me neither. I bet it’s bad.

Of course, since no one has heard of it.

Ummm…what??

I fought a serious urge not to go and make a scene. But be proud of me: I could stand still.

Any stories about stupid people, that know nothing about anything? Please share and make me feel better.

🙂

Jukebox Friday

Standard

My dearest, dearest everyone,

I carry good news 🙂
To make my blog more entertaining, and more enjoyable for you I decided to do a Friday jukebox. What does that mean? Every Friday evening I will pick a song ( song of the week/ favourite song/ songs I can’t get enough of) and post it right here.
Sounds good, right? I hope so. And because you can only understand a song by its lyrics I will post them, too.

Moreover, I will link the song to a memory/ a ship ( which, in case you don’t know, is a couple, or two persons you wish they were together. )

P.S. If you ever want to have your favourite song posted here and discussed, just post a comment below and you’ll listen to it next Friday on my blog 🙂
Now lets quit chatting and here’s my song :

It’s a weird choice, I know, but I can explain. My mother has loved George for a very veeery long time, so inevitable I know all his songs. It’s not, or better said was not, one of my favorites, Jesus to a child. Only recently I have discovered its story and the fact that it is dedicated to his lover, a man that died when George was still very young. From what I have learned, he died of HIV and the singer suffered hugely afterwards.
I couldn’t get the song out of my head or out of repeat today. It manages to transport you in a different state of mind. It’s impressive how 5 minutes manage to amaze the unimpressed.
So, listen to it carefully, give it a try, because it is worth it. It is a beautiful ode dedicated to love and death both, sang by the angelic voice of George Michael.

Tip: try to listen to it while reading the lyrics. It’s a very interesting feeling.

Lyrics:
Kindness In your eyes
I guess You heard me cry
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

I’m blessed I know
Heaven sent And Heaven stole
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

And what have I learned
From all this pain
I thought I’d never feel the same
About anyone
Or anything again

But now I know
When you find love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights

When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight

Sadness In my eyes
No one guessed
Or no one tried
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

Loveless and cold
With your last breath
You saved my soul
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

And what have I learned
From all these tears
I’ve waited for you all those years
And just when it began
He took your love away

But I still say
When you find love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights

When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight

So the words you could not say
I’ll sing them for you
And the love we would have made
I’ll make it for two

For every single memory
Has become a part of me
You will always be My love

Well I’ve been loved
So I know just what love is
And the lover that I kissed
Is always by my side

Oh the lover I still miss
Was Jesus to a child
