Learning time: Parade’s end ( miniseries )

Standard

Presents keep coming these days and I am overly excited because I received Parade’s end – the book.
I keep it on my table, and stare at it lovingly the whole day, because I just can’t wait to read it.
I’ve seen the BBC miniseries, so that’s where the obsession comes from. Initially, I was only interested in it because Benedict Cumberbatch plays the lead role( good reason enough to watch any movie ). Of course, I remained stunned at the beauty of the episodes and realized how ignorant I had been, not to have heard of this amazing book before. If you’re a fan of BBC miniseries, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. It has 5 episodes in total, and though it doesn’t always keep you on the edge of your sit , I enjoyed every single moment of it. The places are stunning and the adaptation has a great quality that makes it special, warm, enjoyable.
Of course, Cumberbatch doesn’t dissapoint, but only makes you love him, if possible, even more. To me, though, he wasn’t the surprise of this movie, because I was already very fond of him.
No, this time, I fell in love with Sylvia, portreyed with grace and elegance by the lovely Rebecca Hall, who did a superb job, playing a complex, interesting woman.

I cannot wait now to rediscover the love for this story in the pages of its book, that I hope, brings the same pleasure as watching the series did.

Santa Claus passed by yesterday evening and dropped some presents for me a little earlier than expected. I can’t complain though, I am happier than I’ve been in a while. And I can feel the fangirl inside me squeezing with joy. My happiness was wrapped up in a box on which all I could read was amazon.co.uk. Which was enough to know, this is would be Sherlock stuff. So that’s what I got:
Small island DVD
Parade’s end DVD
Third Star DVD ( the best movie in this entire world, I swear.)
• An ice-watch.

Aaaaaand Sherlock: The Casebook, which by now I have already read. 🙂

So, yup, been an awful good girl.

Jukebox Friday

Standard

It’s another edition of jukebox Friday!! 🙂 and it’s not just any edition… It’s the apocalypse. So.. I’ve chosen a thematic song ( it’s the Olympics song, but it fit.)

Okay, so today I let you enjoy the marvel of Muse.

I have not always been a huge fan of Muse, but lately I like it more and more. ( it’s quickly becoming my favourite band).
This song sort of reminds me of the sound of Queen, so naturally I am in love with it. Give it a chance and enjoy your evening/ morning/ noon.

Lyrics:
ace, life’s a race
And I am gonna win
Yes, I am gonna win

And I’ll light the fuse
And I’ll never lose
And I choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won’t pull ahead
I’ll keep up the pace
And I’ll reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes I am prepared
To stay alive
I won’t forgive, the vengeance is mine
And I won’t give in
Because I choose to thrive

I’m gonna win

Race, it’s a race
But I’m gonna win
Yes I’m gonna win
And I will light the fuse
I’ll never lose
And I choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won’t ṗull ahead
I’ll keep up the pace
And I’ll reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes I’m gonna win

Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Win! Win! Win! Win!

Yes I’m gonna win

Oh, oh by the way. Since we’re in the music business, I want to recommend you an application ( I think it works both on apple and android ). It’s called 8tracks and it’s brilliant!! Mixes and good stuff. I learn my music from there 🙂 have fun.

Jukebox Friday

Standard

My dearest, dearest everyone,

I carry good news 🙂
To make my blog more entertaining, and more enjoyable for you I decided to do a Friday jukebox. What does that mean? Every Friday evening I will pick a song ( song of the week/ favourite song/ songs I can’t get enough of) and post it right here.
Sounds good, right? I hope so. And because you can only understand a song by its lyrics I will post them, too.

Moreover, I will link the song to a memory/ a ship ( which, in case you don’t know, is a couple, or two persons you wish they were together. )

P.S. If you ever want to have your favourite song posted here and discussed, just post a comment below and you’ll listen to it next Friday on my blog 🙂
Now lets quit chatting and here’s my song :

It’s a weird choice, I know, but I can explain. My mother has loved George for a very veeery long time, so inevitable I know all his songs. It’s not, or better said was not, one of my favorites, Jesus to a child. Only recently I have discovered its story and the fact that it is dedicated to his lover, a man that died when George was still very young. From what I have learned, he died of HIV and the singer suffered hugely afterwards.
I couldn’t get the song out of my head or out of repeat today. It manages to transport you in a different state of mind. It’s impressive how 5 minutes manage to amaze the unimpressed.
So, listen to it carefully, give it a try, because it is worth it. It is a beautiful ode dedicated to love and death both, sang by the angelic voice of George Michael.

Tip: try to listen to it while reading the lyrics. It’s a very interesting feeling.

Lyrics:
Kindness In your eyes
I guess You heard me cry
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

I’m blessed I know
Heaven sent And Heaven stole
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

And what have I learned
From all this pain
I thought I’d never feel the same
About anyone
Or anything again

But now I know
When you find love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights

When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight

Sadness In my eyes
No one guessed
Or no one tried
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

Loveless and cold
With your last breath
You saved my soul
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

And what have I learned
From all these tears
I’ve waited for you all those years
And just when it began
He took your love away

But I still say
When you find love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights

When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight

So the words you could not say
I’ll sing them for you
And the love we would have made
I’ll make it for two

For every single memory
Has become a part of me
You will always be My love

Well I’ve been loved
So I know just what love is
And the lover that I kissed
Is always by my side

Oh the lover I still miss
Was Jesus to a child

Learning time: Skyfall

Bond. James Bond.

Any movies that involve James Bond are to me must-see movies. Sean Connery, Roger Moore both have played the British spy. My favourite Bond remains Pierce Brosnan though.
However, Daniel Craig has done a pretty great job in the latest movie. He still manages to make the female audience sigh out with that amazing elegance. The movie lasts about 2 and a half hours and a lot of things happen, but it’s mostly exciting. The jokes are funny, definitely, for those of you who appreciate British humour.
The best thing about this movie is Javier Bardem. He absolutely rocked that part and became the perfect villain. I had never expected him to be so good, but he was…impressive.
The rest you know to well, even before I tell you. Guns, glamorous cars, amazing spy stuff, cute girls in tight dresses, suits, M and an Adele soundtrack.

P.S. Q, Bond’s help, is adorable.

Exams, Plato and Music.

Standard

Red eyes, caffeine supply, hundreds of written pages and nights unslept. Yap, it’s exams time again. Tomorrow it’s the start and we finish in two weeks. Five subjects, five test-papers and I can only hope for the best.
Tonight I am finished and I’ve done all I can for the tomorrow paper. Of course, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.
Point is… I wanted to share some music with you.
Why?
Easy. Because music is the best way to relax, to spend three minutes away from all the stress and just enjoy a good song. Even Plato says:

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.

Between my personal favourites are Mika, Muse, Coldplay, Maroon 5, Arctic Monkeys and such. I’m sure you’ve all heard of them, but it’s my duty to formally introduce you to the music that touches my soul.
