Some thoughts..

Standard

If there’s anything I’ve learned in my few years of life is not to be afraid of who I am. There are so few people that can really speak their mind nowadays, mostly because they are embarrassed and that is simply wrong.

I was very shy as a child. I used to hide under the table when guests came over and pretend I was invisible, because I didn’t want to talk to them. I am shy now, as well, which is very often perceived by people as arrogance. I am not a people person, mainly because I enjoy being on my own, I like to lose time inside my own mind ( which, frankly, more people should do) and I find social chatting exhausting. However I do get lonely, and that is what my few friends are for. I will only make the first move if a person really interests me, otherwise I’m pretty quiet. My mother always told me that this is not a bad thing and I should embrace who I am, what I am, because if I don’t get myself, no one ever will, and I know she is never wrong. She goes as far as to be proud of having a rather ‘strange’ (as she puts it) kid.

I think it is important to take some time for yourself, too. Call it meditation, or thinking, or however you want, but being on your own, just discovering yourself can be extremely fascinating. There is so much that you don’t know about who you are, things that are so interesting to find out, that you should know. Just as you leave some time to meet your friends for a coffee, put some time aside to meet with your own thoughts. Wander around your mind, read books that change your perspective on the world, listen to music, analyze your dreams, do things that make you happy. There’s only one you in this entire universe, and if you don’t think that is spectacular, you are so wrong.

Because, if there’s one thing I learned is to appreciate my own self and accept and appreciate the diversity of people around me. Surround myself with other types of people, people that will challenge me, help me grow and people that will bring out the best in me. That is the only way to find happiness, in the friends that laugh with you and in your own infinite mind.

Before I’m 17

Standard

I have no idea where my sweet sixteen year has gone. I think I mostly slept through it, which wouldn’t be unlike me.
However, here I am, the last day of being 16 ever. Creepy.
I don’t really care about ‘getting older’ at this moment, because in the morning I know I won’t feel any different. I’m just in for the cake.
But I am proud of this year. I made fabulous friends, I finally, finally went to a French course, I improved my piano playing, I read the whole SH collection ( give me some credit, it was pretty huge ), I discovered Hannibal, I even learned how to make a Caesar salad – not from Hannibal the cannibal, though.
There are things I didn’t get to do, of course, but there’s a lot of time ahead. A lot of days and hours and minutes ready to be filled with fantastic stuff ( like sleeping).
So come on, 17, let’s see what you’ve got.

Did you miss me?

Standard

It’s been a while. I gave up on the idea of a blog a while ago and I keep turning back to it. For some reason.
I haven’t really been busy. Well, summer was full, taking over my life with its waves and happiness. Cutting the story short, I was in France, I met the French, fell in love with the French ( How could one not?).
I travelled through Europe, went at gigs, had fun and met Mika!

But since summer only lasts three months I am back to my ironic self dealing with homework, not such a dramatic highschool life, the future and a big, noisy family.
And the big question….
I say lets bring back them Cooking Tuesdays.

Love, M.

I believe in books

Standard

I made a walk to my favourite library today, because I was feeling sad. I told you about it before, it’s a wonderful place where they sell books and movies nobody has heard about and tea.
I was searching for Never let me go. I didn’t find it. I have it on PDF, but I like reading books, better. Reading on your phone or iPad is different. You’re not so involved anymore.
I like to spend time there. It’s peaceful and there’s nice music playing in the background, and nobody bothers you. And I kept thinking, we speak of this world so much, name it hopeless. The pessimists. But how can we not believe in a world where books are still so powerful? Think that right now, some kid is writing his next novel. Stories are being created, words are being put down on white. This is not a hopeless or forgotten world. Because if there’s one thing I believe in, that’s books. And literature. You have as many lives, as books you read. Maybe the readers will slowly go extinct, but I doubt it. The power of the written word is as strong as ever and no force on this earth can corrupt it.

Jukebox Friday

Standard

It’s another edition of jukebox Friday!! 🙂 and it’s not just any edition… It’s the apocalypse. So.. I’ve chosen a thematic song ( it’s the Olympics song, but it fit.)

Okay, so today I let you enjoy the marvel of Muse.

I have not always been a huge fan of Muse, but lately I like it more and more. ( it’s quickly becoming my favourite band).
This song sort of reminds me of the sound of Queen, so naturally I am in love with it. Give it a chance and enjoy your evening/ morning/ noon.

Lyrics:
ace, life’s a race
And I am gonna win
Yes, I am gonna win

And I’ll light the fuse
And I’ll never lose
And I choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won’t pull ahead
I’ll keep up the pace
And I’ll reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes I am prepared
To stay alive
I won’t forgive, the vengeance is mine
And I won’t give in
Because I choose to thrive

I’m gonna win

Race, it’s a race
But I’m gonna win
Yes I’m gonna win
And I will light the fuse
I’ll never lose
And I choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won’t ṗull ahead
I’ll keep up the pace
And I’ll reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes I’m gonna win

Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Win! Win! Win! Win!

Yes I’m gonna win

Oh, oh by the way. Since we’re in the music business, I want to recommend you an application ( I think it works both on apple and android ). It’s called 8tracks and it’s brilliant!! Mixes and good stuff. I learn my music from there 🙂 have fun.

Jukebox Friday

Standard

My dearest, dearest everyone,

I carry good news 🙂
To make my blog more entertaining, and more enjoyable for you I decided to do a Friday jukebox. What does that mean? Every Friday evening I will pick a song ( song of the week/ favourite song/ songs I can’t get enough of) and post it right here.
Sounds good, right? I hope so. And because you can only understand a song by its lyrics I will post them, too.

Moreover, I will link the song to a memory/ a ship ( which, in case you don’t know, is a couple, or two persons you wish they were together. )

P.S. If you ever want to have your favourite song posted here and discussed, just post a comment below and you’ll listen to it next Friday on my blog 🙂
Now lets quit chatting and here’s my song :

It’s a weird choice, I know, but I can explain. My mother has loved George for a very veeery long time, so inevitable I know all his songs. It’s not, or better said was not, one of my favorites, Jesus to a child. Only recently I have discovered its story and the fact that it is dedicated to his lover, a man that died when George was still very young. From what I have learned, he died of HIV and the singer suffered hugely afterwards.
I couldn’t get the song out of my head or out of repeat today. It manages to transport you in a different state of mind. It’s impressive how 5 minutes manage to amaze the unimpressed.
So, listen to it carefully, give it a try, because it is worth it. It is a beautiful ode dedicated to love and death both, sang by the angelic voice of George Michael.

Tip: try to listen to it while reading the lyrics. It’s a very interesting feeling.

Lyrics:
Kindness In your eyes
I guess You heard me cry
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

I’m blessed I know
Heaven sent And Heaven stole
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

And what have I learned
From all this pain
I thought I’d never feel the same
About anyone
Or anything again

But now I know
When you find love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights

When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight

Sadness In my eyes
No one guessed
Or no one tried
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

Loveless and cold
With your last breath
You saved my soul
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child

And what have I learned
From all these tears
I’ve waited for you all those years
And just when it began
He took your love away

But I still say
When you find love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights

When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight

So the words you could not say
I’ll sing them for you
And the love we would have made
I’ll make it for two

For every single memory
Has become a part of me
You will always be My love

Well I’ve been loved
So I know just what love is
And the lover that I kissed
Is always by my side

Oh the lover I still miss
Was Jesus to a child

Sprite fills in for Vodka.

Standard

Yesterday night I went to a high school prom. All around me I could see teenagers smoking, drinking, dancing. I was so bored the half of the party. I considered many times to call my dad to take me home, but my best friend wanted to stay.
Now, you have to understand that I hate crowds and that I am a little claustrophobic. A little more. So there I was in a crowd of hundreds of drunken teenagers, fearing for my life. ( not really, but…). Half the time I would look at everyone and judge all the kids there.
God, you are so stupid. I want to go home. What am I doing here? I shouldn’t be here. I want to stay on tumblr.
I couldn’t have a drink, because my stomach is a stupid fuck, so all i could drink was one Sprite. However, I am so glad I stayed.
Because the second half was amazing. A guy I adore sang and I got an autograph and a kiss and I was front row at the next band that performed.

A good start for a weekend, right? Stay tuned, and later I’ll come up with ideas how to spend a fun weekend 🙂
